Principal of Platte Valley Middle School in Kersey, Colorado, USA

Ana brings experience in the Costa Rica school system as both a veteran teacher (over 20 years) and as a school principal. She has been the administrator at Escuela La Lucha Elementary School since 2003. She is happy to participate in the Tablab project because she understands the importance of bringing new methods of teaching to her students to maintain engagement and success. She values the access to technology that TabLab can bring to small, rural schools. Her program at La Lucha was the very first pilot site for the TabLab international project. Ana lives in the Sarapiqui region of Costa RIca and has 3 children and 3 grandchildren

Ilaiana has over 15 years of experience in education in the Sarapiqui region of Costa Rica. She has led adult education programs, worked with at-risk youth, and taught public school before becoming an administrator in 2012. Currently, Iliana is the principal for Liceo Rural San Juan Pangola, a TabLab partner school. Iliana is excited to participate in the TabLab program because she sees a high level of curiosity and motivation among both teachers and students. She feels that the use of tablets with the support of teacher training results in innovative work that projects beyond the borders of the institution and the community.

Jeanette has over 25 years of experience in education in Costa Rica and is the current principal of Escuela Bajos de Chilamate. She received her Bachelor of Science in Special Education and Basic Education I and II as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. She appreciates being part of the TabLab project in the Sarapiqui region because she sees teachers developing more interactive activities. The TabLab program also allows her school to fill gaps at the curriculum level. Jeanette believes this is leading to an increase in student motivation.

Thomas Laizer is the Headmaster at Orkeeswa Secondary School in Monduli, Tanzania. As a former mathematics teacher, Thomas has worked with students at Orkeeswa and then joined that administrative team. He is passionate about education and committed to helping young people in this rural area create positive change in their lives and community.y.

As a lifelong teacher, Lydia has been dedicated to students in Tanzania for over 15 years. She received her Master’s Degree in Education and most recently became the Head of School for Banjika Secondary School in Karatu, Tanzania in 2016. She is eager to join the TabLab program because she appreciates the partnership with the TabLab teacher trainers and fees it will support her talented and active teaching staff to engage in technology. She loves her students and enjoys learning new things herself. Lydia can often be found studying, praying, or on adventures.

Patrick is the principal of the G. Arushs Secondary School located in Karatu, Tanzania. He is a partner of both the TabLab program and World Leadership School, and he enjoys watching the learning that results from students connecting from around the world. He is eager to bring more technology and opportunities for collaboration to his community in northern Tanzania.

Ms. Monica Slaa has been the Head of School at the Mlimani Secondary School since it opened in 2007. Located in Karatu, Tanzania, Mlimani joined the TabLab program in 2017.

Mr. Zepharia Sanka is the Head of School at Oldeani Secondary School near Karatu, Tanzania. As a unique joint venture of the local government and the Rift Valley Children’s Village (and Tanzanian Children’s Fund), Mr. Sanka collaborates with both parties to ensure Oldeani students’ success. Oldeania Secondary School joined the TabLab program in 2017.

Mr. Justine Basso is the Head of School and Head Teacher at Bashay Primary School in Karatu, Tanzania. With almost 900 students to support, Mr. Basso partners with local NGOs, volunteer groups, and national organizations to improve student academics as well as creating sustainable environments for food and water.

María José Sirias joined Liceo El Paraiso has the Head of School in late 2016. As one of the first TabLab partner schools in Costa Rica, El Paraiso is re-launching the TabLab project with their new professional development program. El Paraiso is located in the Sarapiqui region of northeastern Costa Rica and hosted the first ever TabLab Intern program for high schools from the US in 2016.

Doña Vilma Alfaro, director of the Ida Huetares primary school since 2010, is originally from the Sarapiquí area and is very motivated to learn how to use technology and implement it in the classroom. Escuela Ida Huertes joined the TabLab program in 2017.

Magaly Carvajal González has over 20 years of experience in education, including five as director / principal. She graduated from the National University of Costa Rica. She is committed to her teacher staff and students at Escuela San Gerardo primary school, and they are excited to have joined the TabLab program in 2016.

Julián Watson is the Director / Principal of Liceo La Virgen located in Sarapiqui, Costa Rica. The high school of 600 students joined the TabLab program in 2017, and they are eager to integrate 21st Century skills and technology into their lessons. They frequently partner with the Ministry of Education to act as a central place in rural Sarapiqui to offer distance learning programs for teacher training. With Mr. Watson’s leadership, they will be integrating the TabLab program in more of their classrooms this year.

Mr. Martinez enjoys the unique environment of the Cindea school, and he believes in quality education for all students. CINDEA was launched in 1998 as part of a project of the Ministry of Public Education of Costa Rica to provide education to young people and adults over 15, who are mostly fathers and mothers, work during the day, or simply cannot continue studying in the traditional system. Cindea Puerto Viejo partnered with TabLab in 2017 to bring innovative solutions to these students and increase their chances of a successful future.
